Web Search Functionality

AI-Starter supports built-in web search functionality with some provider models. This document explains the models that support built-in web search functionality and information handling.

OpenAI's Web Search Functionality​

OpenAI's web search functionality is available with the following.

Supported Status​

  • Using models with built-in web search functionality (recommended): Example: GPT-5 Search API
  • Using web search tools with OpenAIResponsesAPI option (may have unstable behavior)

Information Handling​

  • As with regular models, input information is not used for model training.
  • We inquired with the provider about whether it is used for service improvements of the web search functionality, and confirmed that it is not used.

Gemini's Web Search Functionality​

Gemini's web search functionality is available with the following by using the Grounding with Google Search feature.

Supported Status​

The following Gemini models support the Grounding with Google Search feature.

  • Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite
  • Gemini 2.5 Flash
  • Gemini 2.5 Pro
  • Gemini 3 Pro Preview
  • Gemini Flash-Lite Latest
  • Gemini Flash Latest

Information Handling​

  • As with regular models, input information is not used for model training.
  • According to the Grounding terms of service, data is retained by Google for 30 days.
  • Google will not use the retained data for debugging or testing unless explicitly instructed by the customer.

Display Requirements​

According to the display requirements of the Grounding with Google Search feature, search suggestions and citations are displayed only on the first display. They are not displayed in history or logs.

Nova's Web Search Functionality​

Nova's web search functionality is available with the following.

Supported Status​

You can use web search functionality by enabling the web search option with the following Nova models.

  • Nova 2 Lite (US region only)
